A 17-year-old Bangladeshi youth named Sakib was killed after being shot by India's Border Security Force (BSF) near the Kasba border in Brahmanbaria.
The incident occurred late Sunday night (May 4) at the Madla border area. Sakib was critically injured and was rushed to Cumilla Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning.
Kasba Police Station's Officer-in-Charge, Abdul Kader, confirmed the incident.
Sakib was a resident of Madla Cluster Village in Bayek Union and the son of Motaleb Hossain.
Another individual, Sujan Barman, a 35-year-old Indian national, was also injured in the same firing incident.
According to OC Abdul Kader, the shooting took place around 11:45 pm on Sunday. Both Sakib and Sujan were shot by BSF while at the Madla border. Sakib was taken to Cumilla, while Sujan was reportedly sent to Dhaka for treatment. Further details about Sujan's condition are being investigated.
Local Union Parishad member Nizam Uddin stated that Sakib’s body has been brought back home, and local officials are visiting his family.
Kasba Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Samiul Islam explained that Sakib had gone to the Madla border area on Sunday night with the help of Sujan to smuggle in a motorcycle. BSF troops, who were patrolling the area, opened fire, injuring both of them. Sakib later died during treatment at Cumilla Medical College Hospital.
Attempts to contact Lt. Colonel Md Ziaur Rahman, Commanding Officer of BGB Battalion-60, were unsuccessful as he did not answer his phone.
