School teacher Gazi Salauddin, who was injured during the mass uprising last year's July-August, passed away after a long and painful struggle with his injuries on Sunday night.
His family members told the media that he breathed his last around 10 pm while undergoing treatment at a local hospital in Narayanganj.
Salauddin, 48, was a school teacher from Narayanganj's Siddhirganj area. He joined the movement in solidarity with the protesting students.
The school teacher was critically injured when police opened fire on protesters during the movement. A splinter from a bullet struck his throat, leaving him with life-threatening injuries that doctors described as too risky to operate on.
Since then, he had lived with constant pain and breathing difficulties - a silent reminder of the price he paid for standing by the students.
Salauddin lost sight in his right eye and suffered partial blindness in the other. His injuries ended his teaching career and he lived in hardship for months until the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation helped him set up a small grocery shop in Siddhirganj.
