5 Vehicles Plunge into River from Ferry, 3 Bodies Recovered

Three bodies have been recovered after five vehicles, including a truck, plunged from a ferry into the Dhaleshwari River in Fatullah, Narayanganj. The incident was confirmed by Md. Hasinuzzaman, Additional Superintendent of Police (A-Circle) of Narayanganj.

The accident occurred around 9:30 PM on Saturday (December 20) in the middle of the Dhaleshwari River near the Baktabali ferry ghat area. The deceased have been identified as Rafiq, a motorcyclist; Swadhin, a van driver; and Masud, an expatriate.

According to local sources, the ferry had departed from the Narsinghopur area of Narayanganj. In the middle of the river, a truck on board suddenly began moving forward. The truck pushed a motorcycle, two battery-run auto-rickshaws, and a van into the water before plunging in itself.

Inspector Md. Rakibuzzaman, In-charge of the Baktabali Naval Police Outpost, confirmed the details, stating, "The truck suddenly started moving while in the middle of the river. Five vehicles fell into the water. While the truck driver managed to swim ashore, several others went missing."

Additional SP Md. Hasinuzzaman stated that the process of handing over the three recovered bodies to their respective families is currently underway.

"Search operations have been temporarily suspended for the night. If anyone else is reported missing, the search will resume Sunday morning. Efforts to salvage the sunken vehicles will also begin then," he added.
