A tragic incident occurred in Narail where a filling station manager was reportedly crushed to death by a truck following an altercation over the unavailability of fuel.
The incident took place around 2:00 AM on Saturday (March 28) near the Tularampur rail bridge area under Tularampur Union in Narail Sadar Upazila.
The deceased, Nahid Sardar (33), son of Akram Sardar from Peroli village, was serving as the manager of the local M/S Tanvir Filling and Gas Station. Another individual, Jihad Mollya (27), son of Johur Ali from Chamrul village, was critically injured in the attack and is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in precarious condition.
Escalation of the Dispute
According to police and local sources, truck driver Sujat Mollya and his associate Johur, both from Peroli village, arrived at the station located on the Narail-Jessore highway late Saturday night to collect diesel. Manager Nahid Sardar expressed his inability to provide fuel as the pump's stock had been depleted. This sparked a heated argument between the manager and the truck crew.
Witnesses reported that as the situation escalated, the driver, Johur, openly threatened to kill Nahid by running him over. Shortly after the dispute, around 2:00 AM, Nahid and his colleague Jihad left for their village on a motorcycle. When they were only about 100 yards away from the filling station, the speeding truck struck them from behind.
Fatal Consequences
Nahid Sardar died on the spot after being thrown from the motorcycle. Locals rescued the critically injured Jihad and initially rushed him to Narail District Hospital. He was later transferred to Dhaka as his condition deteriorated. The accused driver and his assistant managed to flee the scene with the truck immediately after the incident.
Severe Fuel Crisis in Narail
Local residents noted that Narail has been grappling with a severe fuel crisis for several days. With supply failing to meet demand, long queues and chaos have become a daily occurrence at local refueling stations.
Sekender Ali, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tularampur Highway Police, confirmed the incident and stated that police have inspected the scene. "The matter is being investigated with the utmost importance. Operations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the driver and seize the truck involved," he added.
