Four people have been killed and at least 10 others injured after a local passenger bus lost control and overturned into a roadside ditch in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria.
The accident occurred around 12:00 PM on Monday (June 8) in the Baishamora area under Shahbazpur union of the upazila on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway.
The deceased include two men, one woman, and a child. Two of them have been identified as Aras Ali Munshi, 70, of Shahbazpur in Sarail upazila, and Mousumi Das, 30, of Madhabpur upazila in Habiganj.
According to highway police and local sources, the driver of the passenger bus lost control of the vehicle while navigating the Baishamora area. Within moments, the bus veered off the highway and plunged into a deep ditch beside the road. Four passengers died on the spot, and several others sustained injuries.
Upon receiving the information, personnel from the Khatihata Highway Police Station and the Fire Service, with the assistance of locals, rushed to the scene to conduct rescue operations.
Md. Abdul Baten, Second Officer of Khatihata Highway Police Station, confirmed that the casualties occurred after the bus lost control and skidded into the ditch, leaving four dead. He added that vehicular movement on the highway has since returned to normal.
