National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md. Abdur Rahman Khan has stated that bank accounts will be requested if tax returns are not filed. He made this statement at an exchange meeting held at the World Trade Center in Chattogram on Thursday (April 10).

The NBR Chairman said, "Those who are not filing returns are being issued notices, and their bank accounts will be requested in the future. We cannot participate in the country's development if we cannot increase taxes.

Last fiscal year, 4.5 million taxpayers filed income tax returns. Among them, 3 million were zero return filers.

Revenue was collected from the remaining 1.5 million taxpayers. It is not possible to achieve the target by collecting revenue from such a small number of people."

Businessmen from Chattogram submitted 19 proposals related to income tax, 40 related to VAT, and 55 related to customs to make the upcoming 2025-26 fiscal year's budget business and industry-friendly.

Assuring consideration of the proposals, the NBR Chairman said that they are trying to simplify and make all activities of the revenue board online-based.

He said, "You have made logical demands. These issues will definitely be considered. These recommendations will be given in the budget formulation. However, we are now focusing on revenue collection. Among this, tax evasion is our top priority."
