Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur announced that the country's 61 banks will be categorized into 12 groups based on their risk profiles and business models.
The Governor made this statement during a press conference on Monday (July 7).
He further elaborated that risk-based auditing has already been completed for 20 banks, and the audit process for all banks is expected to conclude by December. Risk-based supervision of banks will commence in January 2026.
Dr. Mansur also stressed the importance of political purification to effectively counter financial and political pressures, noting that institutional risk oversight alone cannot bring about qualitative political change.
