Actress Shomi Kaiser Arrested in High-Profile Defamation Case
Actress Shomi Kaiser was arrested by the police. On Tuesday night (November 5), she was detained by the Uttara West Police Station from Uttara, the capital city. Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) of the Uttara Division, Rownak Jahan, confirmed the arrest.
On October 14, a defamation lawsuit worth 100 crore taka was filed against Shomi Kaiser in the Magura Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court. The case alleges that she made derogatory comments about BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman at various times.
Shomi Kaiser was born in 1970. Her father’s name is Shahidullah Kaiser, and her mother’s name is Panna Kaiser. Her mother, Panna, is a writer and former Member of Parliament.
Shomi Kaiser began her television acting career in the late 1980s with the drama "Ke Ba Apan Ke Ba Por," directed by Atikul Haque Chowdhury. Shortly after, she starred in a three-episode series titled "Joto Dure Jai," directed by Abdullah Al Mamun.
Some of her notable works include the dramas Nokhotrer Raat, Chhoto Chhoto Dheu, Sparsho, Ekjon Ariyana, Akash E Aneka Raat, Mukti, Ontore Nirontor, Shopno, Thikana, Porichoy, and Shomporko, which have all gained widespread popularity.
