Arijit Singh, one of Bollywood's most celebrated playback singers, has been named a recipient of the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian honour, for 2025. This recognition highlights his immense contribution to Indian music.
The Government of India has announced the list of Padma award recipients for 2025, honouring individuals for their exceptional contributions in various fields.
Arijit Singh's musical journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. He first captured the nation's attention in 2005 as a contestant on the reality show Fame Gurukul at the age of 18. Though he didn't win the competition, his talent and melodious voice left a lasting impression.
Since his Bollywood debut, Arijit has delivered numerous chartbusters in multiple languages. His iconic songs include Tum Hi Ho, Lutt Putt Gaya, Chaleya, O Sajni Re, Jhoome Jo Pathaan, Kesariya, and many others, cementing his status as one of India's most beloved musicians.
The Padma Awards, classified into Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri, recognize contributions across various domains, including art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, literature, sports, and medicine. This year, the Ministry of Home Affairs has announced 7 Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri awardees.
Late folk singer Sharda Sinha will be posthumously honoured with the Padma Vibhushan. The Padma Bhushan will be awarded to late singer Pankaj Udhas, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, and actor Ajith Kumar. In the music category, both Arijit Singh and Ricky Kej will receive the Padma Shri for their outstanding contributions.
President Droupadi Murmu will present these distinguished awards during ceremonial events at Rashtrapati Bhavan in March-April 2025. The announcement, made on the eve of Republic Day, celebrates excellence and dedication across diverse fields.

French-Mexican crime comedy Emilia Perez dominated award circuits, receiving the most Golden Globe nominations. Indian cinema shone brightly with All You Imagine As Light, which won the Grand Prix at Cannes, while Korea’s Exhuma became the highest-grossing Korean film of the year.

Actress Anjana Rahman Passes Away at 59
Renowned actress Anjana Rahman, who won the prestigious National Film Award, passed away on January 4 while receiving treatment at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
Misha Sawdagar, president of the Artists' Association, confirmed her death.
Anjana had been in a coma for 10 days, undergoing treatment in an ICU at a private hospital in Dhaka. Despite extensive medical care, her condition continued to worsen. She was transferred to BSMMU on the night of January 1, after being ill for 15 days. Initially, she showed symptoms of fever and tremors, and it was later discovered that she had developed a blood infection. Following the doctor's advice, she was promptly hospitalized.
Anjana Rahman was a beloved figure in Bangladeshi cinema and gained international recognition for her roles in joint productions and foreign films.
Born on June 27, 1965, Anjana made her acting debut with the film "Dasyu Bonhur", which marked the beginning of her remarkable career. Over the years, she appeared in more than 300 films, earning National Film Awards twice for her outstanding performances in 'Parineeta' and 'Gangchill'.
She was particularly famous for her collaborations with the legendary actor Nayak Raj Razzak, having worked together on 30 films. The first funeral prayer for renowned actress Anjana Rahman was held at her long-time workplace, the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC), where many of her colleagues gathered to pay their respects.
On Saturday, January 4, her close associates and friends from the film industry took part in the prayer. Actress Mukti, visibly emotional, shared, "It's rare to find someone like Anjana Aunt in the film industry. I can't believe she's gone so suddenly. Please, everyone, pray for her."
Earlier, on Friday (January 3), actress Anjana, who had won the National Film Award, passed away at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in the capital, where she had been receiving treatment.
It is worth noting that actress Anjana was a well-known figure in both the Bangladeshi film industry and internationally. She was the only Bangladeshi actress to have acted in the most joint productions and foreign films, transitioning from a dancer to an actress.

Musfiq R Farhan Hospitalized Due to Illness
Popular television actor Mushfiq R Farhan has been hospitalized after falling ill. Director Dipu Hazra confirmed the news, revealing that Farhan became suddenly unwell on Friday (January 3), while shooting for a drama.
He experienced symptoms of fever and body aches, prompting his immediate admission to a hospital in Uttara.
However, Farhan was not satisfied with the initial treatment and was transferred to another private hospital in the capital for further care.
The actor had been scheduled to shoot a drama with actress Safa Kabir on Saturday, January 4, but due to his health condition, the shoot was unfortunately cancelled.
