A Dhaka court has granted Dhallywood actress Nusraat Faria's bail in connection with an attempted murder case tied to the 2024 anti-discrimination movement.
The bail was granted on Tuesday morning (May 20) by the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka.
Just a day earlier, on Monday (May 19), the court had ordered her to be sent to jail.
The case stems from an alleged attempted murder incident during the anti-discrimination protests in the Bhatara area of Dhaka. Alongside Nusraat Faria, fellow actors Apu Biswas, Nipun Akter, Ashna Habib Bhabna, Zayed Khan, and 17 others have been named as accused.
Following a court directive on April 28, the case was formally filed at Bhatara Police Station the next day. Case documents reveal that Enamul Haque lodged the complaint with the CMM Court against former Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, 283 individuals linked to her government, and approximately 300–400 unidentified persons.
Nusraat Faria is accused of financially supporting the ruling Awami League and allegedly taking a stance against the anti-discrimination movement.
On Sunday afternoon (May 18), immigration police detained Faria at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka while she was en route to Thailand. She was handed over to Vatara police, after which Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Md Nazrul Islam confirmed that she was officially shown arrested following interrogation.
