Ilyas Javed, a legendary actor of the golden era of Bangladeshi cinema, a prominent dance director, and a life member of the Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association, has passed away.
Soni Rahman, an executive member of the Artistes' Association, confirmed the news to the media on Wednesday morning (January 21).
"Javed Bhai's condition suddenly took a turn for the worse, and he was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, he could not be saved. We request everyone to pray for his departed soul," Rahman said.
A Long Battle with Illness
The veteran actor had been largely confined to his home for several years due to chronic health issues. He had been battling cancer for a long period and had previously suffered a brain stroke.
In April of last year, he was admitted to a private hospital in Uttara in critical condition but later returned home after showing slight improvement. He also underwent surgery for urinary tract complications on April 4, 2020. Since then, his health had been fluctuating until his passing on Wednesday.
A Career of Rhythms and Roles
Though he began his journey in the 1960s as a choreographer (dance director), Javed eventually established himself as a powerhouse actor. During the 1970s and 80s, he was at the peak of his career, becoming the top choice for directors in folk and costume-drama (Poshaki) films.

The once-vibrant hero of the silver screen spent his final years in the quiet shadows of illness—a "king without a kingdom" whose colorful life has finally come to a rest.
