Actor Shiba Shanu has been elected President and actor Joy Chowdhury General Secretary of the Bangladesh Film Actors' Association (Chalachitro Shilpi Samiti) for the 2026–2028 term.
The Election Commissioner officially announced the results early Saturday (July 4) at around 4:45 AM.
Voting took place throughout the day on Friday (July 3) at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) premises. Out of 573 eligible voters, 480 cast their ballots.
Following the counting process, the Election Commission declared 17 ballots invalid.
According to the announced results, Shiba Shanu secured the presidency with 243 votes, defeating his opponent, fight director and actor Arman, who received 173 votes.
In the race for General Secretary, Joy Chowdhury clinched victory with 237 votes, while his rival, Rumana Islam Mukti, garnered 179 votes.
The BFDC premises had been buzzing with a festive atmosphere over the past few weeks leading up to the election.
The main contest took place between two full panels: the Arman–Mukti panel and the Shiba Shanu–Joy Chowdhury panel. The film arena remained vibrant prior to the polls with active campaigning, panel introduction events, and interactive sessions with voters.
Voting was conducted in a peaceful environment starting Friday morning. Following the polls in the evening, the Election Commission sealed the ballot boxes and commenced counting.
The official results were declared at dawn on Saturday after a prolonged counting process.
With this election, Shiba Shanu and Joy Chowdhury take the helm of the Bangladesh Film Actors' Association for the next two years.
