Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is safe and in good health, according to a close advisor. The confirmation was made on Sunday, March 1, following widespread rumors of his death in the wake of recent U.S. and Israeli strikes across Iran.
Speaking to the Turkish news agency Anadolu on the condition of anonymity, the advisor confirmed he had been in direct contact with Ahmadinejad. "I have spoken with him; he is in perfectly good health," the advisor stated.
The advisor further revealed that a building used for Ahmadinejad’s security operations was targeted in an attack on Saturday.
The strike resulted in the deaths of three members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) special forces, who were serving as the former president's bodyguards.
While the targeted building was only 100 meters away from Ahmadinejad’s private residence, the advisor noted that his home was not the intended target and remains completely intact.
The statement comes after various international media outlets circulated claims that Ahmadinejad had been killed in the joint U.S.-Israeli aerial campaign.
The advisor’s briefing effectively dismisses those reports as baseless.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad served as the President of Iran from 2005 to 2013.
