Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal, a member of the Saudi royal family, has passed away after nearly 20 years in a coma. He was widely known as the "Sleeping Prince."
According to a Gulf News report, Prince Al-Waleed, born in April 1990, was a prominent member of the Saudi royal family and the eldest son of Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, nephew of billionaire Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal.
At just 15 years old in 2005, Prince Al-Waleed suffered severe injuries in a car accident, resulting in a serious brain injury and internal bleeding.
Since then, Prince Al-Waleed had been receiving treatment at King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh. His death has been confirmed by the Saudi royal family.
Five years ago, a video released by Al-Waleed's family showed him moving his fingers while in a coma, which sparked hopes for his recovery. However, despite extensive efforts by specialist doctors from the US and Spain, his condition showed no significant improvement.
Throughout this entire period, Prince Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz steadfastly opposed removing his son's life support, expressing an unshakeable belief that life and death are in the hands of Allah.
Prince Khaled bin Talal announced that Al-Waleed's funeral prayer will be held on Sunday after Asr prayer at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.
