In a bid to elevate existing ties with Bangladesh to "new heights," China has expressed its keenness to host Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for an official visit during the last week of upcoming June.
According to Beijing’s proposal, the visit could last for more than two days.
This information was published by a national daily, citing multiple responsible government officials.
Sources indicated that the exact dates of the tour have not yet been finalized.
However, according to preliminary discussions, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman may hold separate meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang on the very day of his arrival in Beijing.
Last week, journalists inquired about the Prime Minister's potential visit to China with Humayun Kabir, the Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser.
In response, Humayun Kabir said, "The Prime Minister will certainly visit China. They (China) are a very important development partner. He (the Prime Minister) will tour China at a convenient time."
He added that Beijing is interested in hosting Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the final week of June, and as per the Chinese proposal, the trip could span over two days.
Earlier on May 8, during a discussion organized at a hotel in the capital, Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen expressed optimism that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's potential visit to China would take the bilateral relations between the two nations to a new height.
He also reaffirmed that China will stand by Bangladesh in ensuring political stability and economic development.
According to diplomatic sources in Dhaka and Beijing, Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman held a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing on May 6.
The meeting emphasized deepening political-level communication to advance the existing bilateral relations, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's upcoming China visit receiving special priority during the talks between the two foreign ministers.
Diplomatic analysts note that political and official communication with China has been on the rise since the new government assumed office in Bangladesh following the elections last February.
Last month, a high-level delegation led by BNP Secretary General and Minister for Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir visited Beijing and several Chinese provinces.
Following that tour, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman also paid a visit to China.
