Intl. Tibet Support Groups Convene in Dharamshala; Call for Global Action

A major international gathering of Tibet supporters concluded Monday afternoon in the north Indian hill town of Dharamshala, with delegates from across the globe reaffirming their commitment to the Tibetan struggle for freedom and justice.

The three-day special meeting, organized by the Core Group for Tibetan Cause-India, brought together more than 120 participants representing 32 countries. The conference served as a platform to coordinate international pressure and refocus global energy on the Sino-Tibet conflict.

Audience with the Dalai Lama
The highlight of the final day was a special audience with the Tibetan spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Participants described the meeting as a "tremendous honor" that reinforced the movement's core values of peace and compassion.

Tenzin Lekshay, spokesperson for the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), characterized the summit as a resounding success. "The declaration confirms our commitment to the cause of Tibet," Lekshay told ANI. "It is not just for the Tibetan people, but for the larger humanity, carrying a message of love, peace, and freedom."

Focus on Human Rights and Youth
Delegates raised urgent concerns regarding the current situation inside Tibet, particularly the treatment of children and the preservation of culture.

Colonial Boarding Schools: Japanese supporter Hirofumi Kameda, director of the NGO Dream for Children, highlighted the plight of children in Tibet. "One million children are captured in colonial boarding schools in Tibet. This is a serious problem that needs to be addressed immediately," he stated.

Cultural Preservation: Tenzin Damchoe, representing the International Tibet Network from Los Angeles, emphasized the goal of the 32-nation coalition.

"We want 7 million Tibetans to be free and practice their own religion and culture," Damchoe said, calling for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

A New Generation: Kelly Turley, a supporter from the United States, noted that the CTA brought together both young activists and veteran supporters to "refocus energy" for the cause of Tibetan freedom.

A Unified Global Force
The conference concluded with a formal declaration of solidarity. Participants pledged to work as a unified force to ensure that the Tibetan cause remains a priority on the international human rights agenda.

By bringing together delegates from 32 different nations, the meeting aimed to strengthen the global network of Tibet Support Groups (TSGs) and foster collaborative strategies for the coming years.
