At least six people were killed and 14 others injured after a temple wall collapsed amid heavy rain and strong winds in India's Maharashtra state.
The accident occurred on Tuesday evening, May 12, at the Margudevi Temple in Modewadi village, located in the Sangli district. According to a report by Indian news outlet NDTV, the collapse was triggered by a sudden onset of severe weather.
Sangli District Superintendent of Police Tushar Doshi stated that approximately 350 devotees were present on the temple premises at the time, as the site typically attracts large crowds every Tuesday.
When the heavy downpour and storm began, many people sought shelter under a tin-roofed structure adjacent to the temple's boundary wall. The weight of the storm caused a section of the wall and the tin shed to collapse, trapping several people under the debris.
Rescue operations were launched immediately following the incident. The injured were rushed to a local hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
