Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tazul Islam has revealed that evidence has been uncovered implicating former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Bridge Minister Obaidul Quader, and 43 others in acts of genocide. The allegations stem from the government's crackdown on the anti-discrimination student movement that took place in July and August of last year.
Speaking before the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Sunday (April 20), the Chief Prosecutor stated that the investigation is nearing completion. The Tribunal has ordered the prosecution to submit the full investigation report by July 20.
Earlier in the day, 19 individuals—including former ministers and state ministers—were presented in court for a hearing. In their presence, a three-member bench led by Tribunal Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mojumder issued the directive.
