A new political party, the Bangladesh A-Am Janata Party (BAJP), has officially launched with a commitment to ensuring the rights of the people, establishing the rule of law, and promoting freedom of the press and expression.
The announcement was made during a press conference held at a five-star hotel in Banani, Dhaka. Mohammad Rafiqul Amin, Managing Director of Destiny Group, introduced the party and read out its founding declaration as the party’s convener. Fatima Tasnim has been appointed as the party's member secretary.
In his speech, Rafiqul Amin stated that even 54 years after gaining independence, the citizens of Bangladesh continue to face inequality and deprivation. He emphasised the need for unity to resist autocracy and highlighted the party's goal to lead the fight for securing basic and political rights.
He further outlined the party's priorities, which include establishing good governance, generating employment, pursuing a balanced foreign policy, building a secular society, digitising government offices and courts, and discouraging political activities in educational institutions and workplaces.
Fatima Tasnim, in her welcome address, stressed the importance of political awareness in preventing the return of autocratic rule. "We have removed the Awami autocratic regime from power. We will not allow another autocracy to rise," she asserted.
During the event, a 297-member convening committee was announced. Attendees included individuals from political, social, cultural, and professional backgrounds.
