BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has claimed that the hopes and aspirations that inspired the Liberation War have not been fulfilled under Awami League rule. He alleged that the ruling party reshaped the national constitution to serve its own political interests, effectively turning it into a party manifesto. As a result, he emphasized the urgent need for constitutional reform.

Speaking virtually at an Easter Reunion event held in the capital's Khamarbari area on Friday (May 9) afternoon, Tarique Rahman criticized the interim government, accusing it of facilitating the escape of fugitive autocrats and creating divisions among anti-fascist political groups while trying to rehabilitate their allies.

"This country does not belong to any one person or political party—it belongs to the people," he said.

He also referred to past events, saying, "Hasina fled on August 5, and Abdul Hamid did the same. The interim government now claims ignorance—so what exactly do they know?"

Rahman stated that the departure of "fascist" forces has opened the door to restoring democracy in the country. He urged all pro-democracy forces to remain united to prevent future conspiracies.

He concluded by calling on citizens to contribute from their own positions to help move the country forward.
