The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced a comprehensive two-day program to observe the upcoming Great Independence and National Day on March 26.
The announcement was made by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, who also serves as the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Industry, during a press conference held at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan on Sunday.
The observance will commence on March 25 with a discussion meeting scheduled for 2:30 pm at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh.
On the morning of Independence Day, March 26, the party will hoist both the national and party flags at all its offices nationwide, including the central headquarters.
Following the state tributes paid by the President and the Prime Minister at the National Memorial in Savar, BNP leadership and activists will gather at the site to pay their own floral homages to the martyrs of the Liberation War.
The party’s central delegation will then travel to Sher-e-Bangla Nagar to place wreaths at the graves of party founder and former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
To mark the spiritual significance of the day, a special doa mahfil will be organized on the grave premises by the Jatiyatabadi Olama Dal.
During the press briefing, Rizvi emphasized the historic weight of the day, noting that independence granted Bangladesh its distinct identity on the global stage.
He highlighted that the 1971 declaration of independence by then-Major Ziaur Rahman served as a vital inspiration for students, workers, and citizens to join the struggle for sovereignty.
He further noted that the party has already released commemorative posters and plans to publish special supplements in national dailies to honor the sacrifices made during the Liberation War.
Beyond the central events in the capital, BNP units at the district and municipal levels, along with various affiliate organizations, have been directed to implement their own discussion meetings and local programs to ensure the day is marked with due solemnity across the country.
