The homecoming follows a turbulent campaign abroad where the squad became a focal point of political tension. The controversy ignited during a match in Australia when team members refused to sing the Iranian national anthem.

The act of protest drew sharp criticism from state media back home, with one IRIB presenter labeling the athletes "traitors."

In the fallout of the incident, six players and one support staff member initially sought asylum in Australia, citing grave concerns for their safety should they return to the Islamic Republic.

However, in a sudden turn of events, five of those individuals opted to withdraw their asylum applications and depart Australia to rejoin their teammates.

Despite the previous rhetoric from state broadcasters, a formal welcoming ceremony is being organized to mark their return.
According to the Tasnim news agency, the event is scheduled to take place this evening in Tehran.

The return of the players remains a subject of significant interest for international human rights observers, who are closely monitoring the treatment of the athletes following their public display of dissent on the global stage.
