Bangladesh's pace sensation Mustafizur Rahman has secured a mid-season call-up in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). He will join the Delhi Capitals for the remainder of the tournament, with the franchise shelling out a record ₹6 crore for his services.
The Delhi Capitals confirmed the acquisition of Mustafizur on their verified Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon (May 14th).
Their post stated, "Two years later, Mustafizur Rahman is back in our squad." The left-arm bowler replaces Australian batter Jack Fraser-McGurk in the Delhi Capitals' roster.
The ₹6 crore price tag makes Mustafizur the highest-paid Bangladeshi cricketer in IPL history, surpassing Shakib Al Hasan's ₹3.2 crore contract with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2021.
Previously, Mustafizur represented the Delhi Capitals in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. In 2022, he took 8 wickets in 8 matches with an economy rate of 7.62. He played two matches for Delhi in 2023.
Across his IPL career, Mustafizur has played 38 matches, picking up 38 wickets with an economy rate of 7.84. He has played for multiple franchises and is known for his skillful bowling at various stages of the innings. In the most recent edition, he was part of the Chennai Super Kings squad.
For Bangladesh, Mustafizur has claimed 132 wickets in 106 T20 International matches, establishing himself as one of the leading left-arm pacers in white-ball cricket. He has also taken 351 wickets in 281 T20 matches across various domestic and global leagues.
