England made history by posting a colossal total of 400 runs, despite not a single batsman reaching a century.

At Edgbaston in Birmingham on Thursday (May 29), West Indies captain Shai Hope won the toss and invited England to bat first. His decision quickly proved costly.

England's openers, Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett, launched into a T20-style assault, forging a 64-run partnership in just 7 overs.

Jamie Smith departed after a brisk 37 off 24 balls, while Ben Duckett played a brilliant innings of 60 runs from 48 deliveries.

Joe Root then contributed 57 runs off 65 balls, keeping the scoreboard moving. Captain Harry Brook led from the front with a 58-run knock from 45 balls, followed by Jos Buttler adding 37 runs off 32 balls.

However, it was Jacob Bethell's blistering 82 off 53 balls towards the end, featuring 8 boundaries and 5 sixes, that played a crucial role in reaching the 400-run mark.

Will Jacks also chipped in with 39 runs from 24 balls. England finished their allotted 50 overs on 400 for 8 wickets.

West Indies Collapse in Chase
For the West Indies, Jayden Seales was the standout bowler, taking 4 wickets for 84 runs in 9 overs. Alzarri Joseph and Justin Greaves picked up two wickets each.

Chasing the daunting total, West Indies batsmen crumbled against the English bowlers, getting dismissed for only 162 in 26.2 overs.

Tail-ender Jayden Seales was the top scorer for the visitors with 29 runs. Shai Hope made 25, and Kasey Carty scored 22.

Saqib Mahmood and Jamie Overton were exceptional for England, claiming 3 wickets each, while Adil Rashid picked up 2 wickets.

This match marked a historic first in ODI cricket: it was the first time a team scored 400 runs without any individual batsman hitting a century.

England's innings featured four half-centuries but no triple-figure scores. Furthermore, it was the first instance in ODI history where the first seven batsmen in an innings all scored over 30 runs.
