Inter Milan secured a fantastic 2-1 away victory against German giants Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash, ending Bayern's 22-match unbeaten streak. Lautaro Martínez scored the opening goal for the Italian side.
In a dramatic match at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday (April 8th), Inter Milan pulled off a Champions League quarter-final surprise. Davide Frattesi netted the decisive goal for Inter in the 88th minute.
Despite the Italian opposition, Bayern's Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Raphaël Guerreiro all registered shots on target in the first half, with seven attempts in total. However, they failed to find the net. Instead, Lautaro Martínez put Inter ahead in the 38th minute, latching onto a back-heel pass from Marcus Thuram before slotting the ball into the goal.
Bayern finally equalized in the 85th minute when substitute Thomas Müller scored with a delicate touch after coming on for Leroy Sané. However, their relief was short-lived. Just three minutes later, Frattesi scored the winner for Inter, converting a cross from Carlos Augusto.
This result marks Bayern's first Champions League defeat since April 2021 against Paris Saint-Germain. The second leg of the quarter-final will be played at the San Siro on April 16th, a match Bayern must win to keep their semi-final hopes alive.
