Canada played a dominant brand of football but had to settle for a 1–1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Toronto Stadium. Despite the hosts pressing aggressively from the opening whistle, it was Bosnia who took the lead against the run of play.

However, the Group B contenders refused to back down. Maintaining their attacking momentum, Canada fought back to level the score at 1–1, securing their first-ever point in FIFA World Cup history.

Forward Jovo Lukić put Bosnia ahead in the 21st minute with a header from a corner. Canada finally found the equalizer in the 79th minute through substitute forward Cyle Larin. The hosts created numerous scoring opportunities across both halves. In the 53rd minute, a certain goal was denied when Bosnian defender Sead Kolašinac managed a goal-line clearance, sending the ball crashing against the post. Canada also squandered two clear-cut chances late in the first half.

Prior to this match, Canada had suffered defeats in all six of their previous World Cup appearances across the 1986 and 2022 editions. Although the co-hosts opened their current campaign with a historic point, head coach Jesse Marsch expressed some frustration after the match.

"I’m disappointed with the first half. We were a bit hesitant and didn't play as aggressively as we wanted to," Marsch said in the post-match press conference.

Reflecting on the historic point, Marsch added, "The script flipped the moment we stepped onto the pitch for the second half. Everything is still in our hands. This point is crucial for keeping our hopes alive in the group. I want to see the lessons we learned today reflected in our next match."

Lukić's 21st-minute strike marked his first international goal. After conceding, Canada intensified their pressure upfront. Their persistence paid off when Larin scored just four minutes after coming off the bench in the 75th minute, bringing much-needed relief to the Canadian fans. With this strike, Larin became only the second Canadian player to score in a World Cup, following Alphonso Davies.

With this result, both Canada and Bosnia walk away with one point each in Group B. Canada will face Qatar in their second group match on June 19, while Bosnia is scheduled to play Switzerland on June 18.
