Sanjay Deb, a Bangladeshi-American DJ and musician, made his mark at the grand opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup 2026, jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Performing Friday night at the World Cup opening ceremony in Toronto, Canada, the musician showcased Bangladesh on the global stage in a truly unique way.
Sanjay Deb participated in the performance of Nora Fatehi's new song ahead of the Canada vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina match at Toronto Stadium on Friday. They were joined by French pop star Vegedream. During the performance, Sanjay was seen wearing a specially designed jacket.
The right sleeve of the jacket featured intricate embroidery depicting Bangladesh's national animal, the Royal Bengal Tiger, the national flower, the water lily, and the national flag designed with a red circle on a green background.
But it didn't stop there. Throughout the performance, Sanjay was seen repeatedly pointing to his sleeve, proudly displaying the designs representing Bangladesh.
The moment from Sanjay's performance has already gone viral on social media, where everyone is pouring in praise for such an innovative representation of Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, in the grand event that kicked off at 11:30 PM Bangladesh Time, the stage was set alight not only by Sanjay and Nora Fatehi but also by world-renowned and popular Canadian musicians like Michael Bublé, Alanis Morissette, and Alessia Cara.
Jessie Reyez and Palestinian singer Elyanna also performed, with William Prince completing the lineup. This diverse array of artists beautifully highlighted Canada's multicultural identity on the global stage.
