'Next national election will be held on time'
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "The next national election in Bangladesh will be held on time and the democratic process will continue."
She said, "People will cast their vote, people will give the vote for whoever they want as the sole owner of their vote. And whoever gets the people's vote will form the government."
Prime Minister made these statement while speaking as the chief guest at a civic reception organized at the Hilton Hotel in Geneva, Switzerland on Thursday, june 15.
Elections are scheduled to be held in Bangladesh in December this year or next January after the five-year term of the current Awami League government.
The main opposition BNP has vowed to boycott the vote, saying it would be rigged in favor of the ruling party, though the government has denied the allegations.
Instead, the opposition demanded the resignation of Sheikh Hasina's government to pave the way for an impartial administration to hold elections.
Sheikh Hasina said, "Since BNP knows very well that they will not get any vote from the people for their bad activities and that is why they are now looking for an excuse to withdraw from the election process."
She added, "Actually they (BNP) are the party of thieves and vote rigging. It is not possible for them to come to power without stealing votes. People don't want them anymore and that's why they don't get votes from the people."
