Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, 37 years have passed as the party’s president, it may not be prudent to remain in the post for such long period. It seems to me that Awami League should think about their new leadership progressively.

She said this when leaders of Awami League and its associate organizations accorded her greetings on the occasion of her home coming day at the Ganabhaban on Thursday.

Sheikh Hasina said, politics should be done with honesty. How much we can offer and will do is the main thing.

The Prime Minister said, one thing should be in mind that if the organization is strong, if there is unity and the organization can create public opinion then anything can be attained. Which we have proved time to time.

Sheikh Hasina returned to the country on this day in 1981 after the tragedy of 1975, passing her long refugee life abroad.

The premier said that the flow of people which she witnessed on that day undermining the natural calamity to receive her, the love she was accorded still inundates her.

Mentioning that after losing her father, mother and the near and dear ones, the love from people of the country showed her the path to live, she said that her political life began through their shelter.

The Prime Minister said, the aim of her politics was to return the democracy which went to cantonment and to make extreme poor people smile.

She said that she returned to the country in a complex moment. The killers of father of the nation were well established, could not seek justice for the killers due to indemnity act, Zia was running the country declaring him the President by imposing curfew. Attempts were also going on to split Awami League.

Sheikh Hasina alleged that Ziaur Rahman killed 562 officers of Air Force and many freedom fighters army officers, soldiers through 19 coups.

She said, after the killing of Zia 12 young officers were hanged through farce in the name of justice. Many watched on television that he was named as the killer.

The Prime Minister said, we are also arranging trial for the war criminals and in this process who gave statements as witnesses were under repression. So we have to look into the matter that nobody can harass those who were the witnesses.

She said, if anybody conduct repression on the witnesses then they have to face trial as war criminals and will be awarded capital punishment.

Party advisory council members Industries Minister Amir Hosssain Amu and Tofael Ahmed, presidium members Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury and Advocate Sahara Khatun, party general secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif and Dr. Dipu Moni and other central leaders were present on the occasion.
