BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir urged the government to detain the drug traders within themselves at first.
He said this at an iftar mahfil offered by Khelafat Majlish, an affiliate of 20-party alliance organized at a convention hall in the capital on Monday.
Mirza Fakhrul said, a new drive has begun in the country. We want that steps should be taken to combat against drugs. But prior to this detain the drug traders from own quarters. MP from ruling party Abdur Rahman Bodi is the main drug trader. But he was released.
He said, criminals should be brought under justice. But killing without trial cannot be conducted. But earlier the path of erasing dissenting opinion was taken in the name of militant eradication. Innocents were killed after naming them as militants. No investigation was done.
He expressed concern that repression will come down over the opposition parties during drive against drugs.
About BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s imprisonment the BNP leader said, government is using state’s mechanism by force to remain in power and to establish it she was imprisoned under false case.
Mirza Fakhrul said, Khaleda Zia always led from the front during crucial moment of democracy and protected it. She never was defeated in election. To keep her away from people she was confined in jail by the government isolated from people.
The 20-party alliance leaders including Khelafat Majlish Bangladesh Secretary General Professor Dr. Ahmed Abdul Kader were present in the program.
