Maitri Diwas Celebrations, 2023

The High Commission of India, Dhaka celebrated Maitri Diwas on December 06, 2023 at the Indian Cultural Centre, Gulshan. It is on this day in 1971 that India had officially recognised Bangladesh as an independent, sovereign country.

High Commissioner Pranay Verma welcomed the guests and in his address, he highlighted the deep and historic ties between India and Bangladesh. He underscored that Maitri Diwas signifies the genesis of a partnership rooted in equality, mutual respect, and unwavering solidarity—a proud moment symbolizing India's steadfast support for Bangladesh's struggle for freedom.

The Maitri Diwas celebrations showcased the rich and diverse cultural heritage of India and Bangladesh through various performances by eminent artists from Bangladesh. The event featured classical and folk dances, music and recitation. Joler Gaan, a prominent folk dance group of Bangladesh performed in the event.
