Polling is underway in 156 upazilas in the 2nd phase

Voting is going on in 156 upazilas in the second phase of sixth upazila parishad election.

Voting begins at 8 am on Tuesday (May 21) and will continue till 4 pm.

In the second phase of this election, votes are being taken in Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) in 24 upazilas. In the rest, ballots are being taken.

In the second phase, the Election Commission postponed the election of Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila on the orders of the court, even though polling was scheduled in 157 upazilas. Therefore, in the second phase, polls are going on in 156 upazilas.

A large number of members of law and order forces including police, BGB, RAB have entered the field to conduct the election in a free, fair and peaceful environment.

22 candidates were elected unopposed in this phase. Among them, seven chairman, eight vice chairman and seven women vice chairmen. Apart from this, single candidates were elected unopposed in all three posts in two upazilas.

The total number of voters in the second phase is 3 crore 52 lakh 4 thousand 748 people. Among them 1 crore 79 lakh 5 thousand 464 men and 1 crore 72 lakh 99 thousand 47 women. 237 transgenders. The total number of candidates in this phase is one thousand 824 people. Among them, 603 people are contesting for the post of chairman, 693 people for the post of vice chairman and 528 people for the post of women vice chairman.

It is to be noted that according to the schedule announced by the EC, voting was held in 139 upazilas in the first phase on May 8. Voting in the second phase is going on today. After that, polling will be held in the third phase in 112 upazilas on May 29 and in the fourth phase in 55 upazilas on June 5.
