Upazila polls: Voting of 7-8% in two hours

Polling in the second phase of the Sixth Upazila Parishad elections is going on across the country. Voting process has started simultaneously in 156 upazilas from 8 am on Tuesday (21 May). The polling will continue continuously till 4 pm. Amid of this, 7-8 percent votes were cast across the country in the first two hours of polling from 8 am to 10 am.

Election Commission (EC) Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath confirmed this information on Tuesday (21 May) at 11:15 am.

He said that polling has started in 156 upazilas from 8 am today. So far no untoward incident has occurred anywhere. However, an Ansar member died of a heart attack due to physical illness in Sirajganj Sadar Upazila.

Regarding low voter turnout, Ashok Kumar said, voting started only two hours ago. According to the data obtained from different districts, the voting rate is different in each region. Somewhere more, somewhere less. However, this rate will increase with time.

Note that the total number of centers in 156 upazilas is 13 thousand 16. There are 91 thousand 589 polling booths. There are 8,841 temporary polling booths. Total voters in this phase are 3 crore 52 lakh 4 thousand 748 people. Among them there are 1 crore 79 lakh five thousand 464 male voters. There are 1 crore 72 lakh 99 thousand 47 female voters and 237 third gender voters.
