Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) cut electricity generation at least half of its usual production.
PDB has switched off many power plants in the coastal areas as a safety measure as Cyclone Remal hits Bangladesh.
As a result more than 10,000 mobile towers or Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) are unable to serve the power. This has affected the mobile and internet usage of millions of people in the southern districts of the country.
Residence in Barguna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Chattogram, Khulna and several other districts have been affected.
Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer of Robi, Shahed Alam said, 'This situation has been created due to the long power outage. We are trying to start some towers with portable generators. '
Shameem Hasan, the spokesperson of PDB said, 'As the cyclone hits, many electric poles have been damaged in Khulna and Barisal regions. The situation is same across the country. The power supply will resume after repairing the damages.'
According to the PDB data, currently, they are producing around 5,000 megawatts of electricity.
However, the Power cuts started last midnight across the country.
