BNP expels Sylhet city rebel mayoral candidate Selim

Sylhet metropolitan unit BNP general secretary Badruzzaman Selim was expelled from the party. He was expelled following violating discipline of the party.

The information came in through a press release sent by party co-office secretary Taiful Islam Tipu on Tuesday.

The press release said, Sylhet metropolitan BNP general secretary was expelled from all level of posts including primary membership according to the party constitution due to his involvement in anti party activities and for violating the party discipline.

Party leaders and activists were requested not to communicate with him.

In the Sylhet City Corporation election BNP gave nomination for the mayor post to party central executive member and former city mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury. But after not getting nomination from the party Badruzzaman Selim declared to run in the election as a rebel candidate.

196 candidates are vying for the election including 7 for the mayor post, 127 for the general councilor posts and 62 for the reserved women councilor posts.

The mayor candidates are-Badruddin Ahmed Kamran of Awami League, Md. Ariful Haque of BNP, Badruzzaman Selim as an independent candidate, Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer of Jamaat, Abu Jafar of CPB-BSD, Dr. Moazzem Hossain of Islami Shasontantra Andolon and Ehsanul Haque Taher as an independent candidate. The total number of voters is 3 lakh 21 thousand 732. Md. Alimuzzaman is performing duty as the Returning Officer. The first election of Sylhet City Corporation was held in 2003.
