ACC forms 3-member committee to probe Matiur's case
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started an investigation into allegations of corruption against NBR member and Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal President Matiur Rahman. A three-member committee has also been formed in this regard.
This information was given in a press briefing of ACC on Sunday (June 23).
The ACC has formed a three-member team, led by its Deputy Director Anwar Hossain, to investigate the case. They will review previous allegations. The commission will investigate everything about his assets. On June 4, it was decided to investigate the allegations of illegal wealth acquisition and money laundering. They have already started working.
Earlier today, Matiur Rahman was removed from the post of president of the Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal of NBR.
The notification also mentioned that this order will be effective immediately in public interest.
Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat, the son of Matiur Rahman, sparked discussion when he bought a goat from Dhaka's Sadeeq Agro for Tk 15 lakh for sacrifice. However, in the beginning, Matiur Rahman denied Ifat as his son.
Earlier, Matiur Rahman told the media, 'I don't have a son named Ifat.' Not even relatives or acquaintances. My only son's name is Taufiqur Rahman. A group is spreading misinformation against me.'
However, Member of Parliament of Feni-2 Constituency Nizam Uddin Hazari said that Ifat is his cousin's child. And Matiur Rahman is his father.
