Consumers frustrated as commodity prices soar

The prices of almost every commodity are increasing. As the prises sour at the vegetable market. Ordinary people are under pressure. Although there is not much shortage of supply, the prices of most commodities are rising.

Such situation were seen in the capital's Karwan Bazar, Rampura, Malibagh and Moghbazar areas on Friday (June 28).

It has been seen that Onion was sold at Tk 90 per kg in the market last week. Which has increased by Tk 5-10 in a week. Picked Onions now being sold at Tk 100 per kg in retail shops. They are slightly larger in size. Normal quality Onion is available at Tk 95. Apart from this, the price of Potato has increased by Tk 65 per kg, which is Tk 5 more than last week. There is no decrease in the price of Green chilli, which is being sold at Tk 260 to Tk 300 per kg. The prices of other daily commodities are still high.

The prices of all types of vegetables are stable in these markets over the week. Taro stem root Tk 80 per kg, Eggplant Tk 50 to 60, Bitter gourd Tk 60, Spiny gourd Tk 80, Pointed gourd Tk 40, Lady's finger Tk 40, Yardlong bean Tk 80, Bottle gourd Tk 40 to Tk 50 each, Papaya Tk 60 per kg, Sponge gourd Tk 50 to Tk 60, Snake gourd Tk 60, Arum lobe Tk 80, Ribbed gourd Tk 70, Drum Stick Tk 160 per kg.

In the markets, Cauliflower is being sold at Tk 40 to 50 each, Cabbage at Tk 40 to 50, Broccoli at Tk 40 per piece, Tomato at Tk 70 to 80 per kg and Carrot at Tk 80 per kg. Lemon per hali is being sold at Tk 10 to 40, Coriander leaves at Tk 350 to 400 per kg. Banana per hali is being sold at Tk 40, sweet pumpkin at Tk 40 to 50 per kg.

Apart from this, in the markets, Red amaranth sold at Tk 15, Bottle gourd leaves at Tk 40, Radish leaves at Tk 15, Spinach from 15 to 20 taka, Water amaranth at Tk 10, Indian spinach at Tk 30 per ati.

The price of Broiler chicken has decreased by Tk 10 per kg in a week. Selling at Tk 170 to 175. Broilers were sold at Tk 180 to185 last week.

Sonali or Pakistani chicken is Tk 310 to 320 per kg in the markets. Sonali hybrid chicken is selling at Tk 300, Country chicken at Tk 680 to 700, Layer chicken at Tk 300 and white Layer at Tk 290 per kg.

The price of Beef Tk 650 to 780 per kg. Beef liver is selling at Tk 780 per kg, Head meat at Tk 450, Bot at Tk 350 to Tk 400 and Goat meat at Tk 1,150 to 1,200 per kg.

A dozen red eggs are being sold at Tk 155 in the markets. A dozen of duck eggs is Tk 180. Country chicken eggs were seen to be sold at Tk 85 per hali.

Hilsa fish weight of 500 grams is being sold at Tk 1,000 to Tk 1,200 per kg. 700 to 800 gram Hilsa fish is being sold at Tk 1,600 to Tk 1,800 per kg. Besides, Tk 400 to 600 per kg of cultivated Barbel (depending on size), Tk 370 to 600 of Salmon (depending on size), Cat fish Tk 900 to 1,200, Trout fish at Tk 300 to 450, Pangasius fish Tk 190 to 220, Shrimp from Tk 800 to 1,400 per kg, Trout Tk 500 to Tk 900 per kg, Carp Tk 400 to 600, Poa fish Tk 400 to 450, Butter fish Tk 400 to 500, Tilapia Tk 220 per kg, Climbing fish Tk 220 to 240, Pale carplet fish Tk 600, Kajli fish Tk 1,400, Tengra Tk 600 to 900 Corica soborna fish Tk 600, Mixed fish Tk 220, Pomfret Tk 1,200, Gring fish Tk 1,200 to 1,500 per kg, Country climbing fish Tk 1,000, Striped snakehead fish Tk 600 to 1,000, Long whiskered catfish Tk 700 to 900 and Bele fish Tk 800 being sold at the market.

In the markets, the price of coarse rice is Tk 48 to 50 per kg, BR-28 rice is Tk 55 to 58, Paijam Tk 58 to 60. 75 Tk per kg of medium quality thin rice. And good quality thin rice is Tk 85 per kg.
