Payra Power Plant has resumed production at full capacity. The shutdown of centre's second unit of 622 MW power generation resumed from 4.40 pm on Monday (July 1).

Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) confirmed this in a message. The unit was closed since June 25 due to maintenance work.

The total production capacity of the coal-based power plant is 1,244 MW. Concerned people hope that load shedding will reduce as power generation starts at full capacity.

The Bangladesh-China Purchase Company (BCPC), a joint venture between Bangladesh and China, built this power plant at Payra in Patuakhali.

Bangladesh's state-owned Northwest Power Generation Company (NWPGCL) and China's state-owned China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation (CMC) have equal stake in the power plant. The coal needed for this center comes from Indonesia.
