Chess Grandmaster Zia is no more
The 12th round of the National Chess Championship was underway. Another Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman was in a good position against Grandmaster Enamul Hossain Rajib. Suddenly, two chess players Shakil and Naim rushed to the room of the chess federation and said, 'Jia Bhai has lost his sense.'
The popular grandmaster of the country did not return from there.
Hearing the news of Zia's illness, everyone rushed to the chess board room. Everyone hastily grabbed him and brought him down. Zia was taken to Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital in Shahbagh by GM Rajib's car.
In just nine minutes, he was brought to the hospital from the Chess Federation in Paltan. The doctors of the emergency department there declared him dead after an examination.
Zia's wife Labonno was in the Federation. His son Tahsin Tajwar is also playing national chess.
He was 49 years old at the time of his death. Born in 1974, Zia won the title of International Chess player in 1993 and second Grandmaster of the country in 2002.
Ziaur Rahman became the national chess champion for the first time in 1988. He has also a record of 14 times champion in the tournament. Whereas the remaining four Grandmasters have won a combined 16 times.
