Season's highest rain in Dhaka, fear of continuing on Saturday
Heavy to very heavy rains continue across the country as the southwest monsoon becomes more active. A record 130 mm of rain fell in Dhaka in 6 hours in the last moment of Ashar. Rain is likely to continue on Saturday.
On Friday (July 12), the Met Office said 130 millimeters of rain was recorded in six hours from 6 am to 12 pm. Which is highest in this monsoon season. Earlier, 224 mm of rain was recorded on May 27 under the influence of Cyclone Remal.
Meteorologist Kazi Zebunnesa said, 'It is normal rain during the monsoon season, which is the highest this year. On May 27, 224 mm of rain was recorded, but that was due to the cyclone.
She said, 'It started raining after 6 o'clock on Friday morning. 60 mm of rain fell in the first 3 hours till 9 am. After that the rain got heavier and in the next 3 hours from 9 am to 12 pm 70 mm of rain was recorded. It was still drizzling after 12 noon, but it was light. There may be heavy rain in the capital on Saturday as well. However, there is no chance of rain throughout the day. From Sunday, the trend of rain may reduce a bit.
On Friday (July 12) morning, more than 20 roads in the capital were inspected and found that these roads were submerged in water. Many vehicles have broken down due to water entering the engines of vehicles plying on these roads. All in all, the residents of the capital had to suffer due to rain, traffic jam and waterlogging.
Meanwhile, the weather forecast given for the country's inland river ports from 10 am to 6 pm on Friday said, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Madaripur, Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Dhaka, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar and Sylhet regions, rain or thundershower with gusty wind speed of 45 to 60 km per hour from south or south-west may occur temporarily. The river ports in these areas have been asked to display danger signal number 1.
