Attack on Mahmudur Rahman in Kushtia court premises

Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) suddenly attacked Daily Amar Desh Editor Mahmudur Rahman in Kushtia court premises when he got out after receiving bail order in defamation case. Mahmudur Rahman was hurt with broken glass pieces of his car, thrown brick chips and stick attack. Later with help of some lawyers he was rescued from his car and taken to a nearby house.

The incident took place at 4:30 pm on Sunday. The attackers at first broke all the glasses of his private car by hitting with sticks and throwing brick chips. Then they attacked Mahmudur Rahman with sticks and brick chips.

Later the attackers threw brick chips targeting the house where Mahmudur took shelter. At that time they were scolding and chanting slogans against Mahmudur Rahman for demeaning Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. All present at the court premises were frightened at that moment. Later at around 5 pm he and his associates left the court premises boarded on an ambulance.

Earlier, at around 11:30 am after arriving from Dhaka he appealed for bail in the Kushtia court in a defamation case filed against him. After the hearing Judge of the judicial court granted him bail at 12:15 pm over bail bond of 10 thousand taka. After the bail order when Mahmudur Rahman was coming out of the court then BCL leaders and activists tried to surround him by chanting slogans. Fearing attack he took shelter in the court building. Then the BCL leaders and activists took their position in all the court gates.

After being confined for 4 hours and 15 minutes when he came out from the court building and tried to left the place boarded on a private car the incident of attack took place.

After the attack Mahmudur Rahman said, police allowed the attack on me through giving guard. This is Bangladesh of Sheikh Hasina.

It is mentionable, on January 10, 2017 Kushtia district BCL president Yasir Arafat Tushar filed a defamation case in Kushtia court against Mahmudur Rahman for demeaning Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his grand daughter Tulip.
