PM's speech about death of 'Abu Sayeed'
According to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, 'The VC holding a meeting with the proctor and everyone of the university on the second floor in Rangpur. They set fire there, burnt the car and set fire inside the house. When the police went to rescue, they attacked the police. Yes, a person has died in police firing, whoever dies is the child of the parents. We are truly sorry for that.'
She gave this speech while visiting the damaged Bangladesh Television (BTV) building on Friday (July 26) morning.
Prime Minister also said, 'His home is Pirganj in Rangpur. We arranged everything for his burial.'
Abu Sayeed was one of the coordinators of the movement and students of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur.
On the afternoon of July 16, Begum Rokeya University students marched towards the campus. After that, when they tried to enter the campus, the police and Chhatra League stopped them. At one stage they clashed with the police. Police fired several rounds including rubber bullets, tear cells at the students. In this three-way conflict, Abu Saeed was killed in front of the procession.
