Student killed during quota reform protest in Rangpur

One student of Begum Rokeya University (BRUR) in Rangpur was killed during a clash between police and the quota reform protesters at the university entrance this noon.
The incident took place on Tuesday (May 16) at around 2:30 pm.
The deceased has been identified as Abu Sayeed, 25. He was a student of the English Department of the university.
The quota protesting students of Rokeya University went towards the campus from Lalbagh area of the city with a procession. When they tried to enter the campus, they were stopped by police. As a result, protesters clashed with the police. Police fired rubber bullets at the students. Abu Sayeed, a student of the 12th batch of BRUR English department, was killed in the attack.
Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Moniruzzaman said, 'Students of different schools, colleges and other educational institutions joined the quota protesters. They clashed with the police. Many policemen were injured. I heard that someone died, I can't say how he died.'

Robbers fear in capital, city dwellers in insecurity
Due to the quota reform movement in government jobs, all police stations of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) are currently empty. In this situation, robberies are happening at night in some areas of the capital. Panic is spreading among the capital residents. They are suffering from insecurity. They have already arrested some robbers from Mohammadpur, three from Mazar Road in Mirpur and one from Shanir Akhra. Residents are suffering from insecurity due to night robbery. Many called the emergency number provided by the army and BGB in the incident of robbery.
According to police sources, there have been attacks, vandalism and looting in more than four hundred police stations across the country including Dhaka. Considering the situation, no one feels safe in the police station or their respective offices. Some are hiding in the homes of relatives. Army personnel rescued policemen from some police stations.
After the resignation of the Sheikh Hasina government, in the absence of the police, there has been a fear of robberies in the last three nights. As a result, the residents are guarding by forming teams in different areas of the capital. Locals came to the field to resist the robbers with sticks and bamboo at every turn.
Meanwhile, on August 7, ISPR informed that, in the current situation, members of the Bangladesh Army are deployed to provide overall security to public property and important government facilities. In case of any acts of vandalism, mayhem or death threats are requested to contact the nearest army camp.
In this regard, it has been asked to refrain from misleading the army by providing false information and fearing rumours. City residents have been asked to call the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Dhaka to prevent any acts of robbery or harm to public safety.

As criminals are killing common people and policemen, we have decided that the police station is an important establishment, and policemen should be saved. They are public servants, they should be given a chance to reform again. Apart from this, there are hundreds of families and policemen at the Tejgaon police station. There are many weapons in the police station. The country will be in extreme danger if they get that. Then we made arrangements to strengthen the security of the police station.

Confirming the matter, Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) manager ATM Abduzzah said that when the water level in Kaptai Lake rises to 108 feet MSL, the situation will be dangerous. The water rose to 107.63 feet till 2 o'clock on Saturday. So water is expected to rise to 108 feet by evening. In this situation, 6 inches of 16 gates will decide to be released.

All kinds of meetings, gatherings, processions, processions, demonstrations, etc are prohibited on the roads adjacent to the government residence, Justice Bhaban, Judges Complex, main gate of Bangladesh Supreme Court, and Matsya Bhaban.
