Petition to stop firing on protestors dismissed
The court rejected the writ seeking directions not to fire directly at the protestors or agitators to suppress the protest.
The bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Masud Hossain dismissed it at 11 am on Sunday (August 4).
However, the court said that if it is necessary to shoot, the constitution and the law must be followed properly.
Earlier, the matter was scheduled to be heard on August 1. But the hearing was not held due to the illness of the junior judge of the attached court, SM Masud Hossain Dolan.
Meanwhile, two lawyers of the Supreme Court filed a writ petition on July 29 seeking instructions not to use live rounds (fresh bullets) directly on protesting students in different parts of the country. They are Manzoor-al-Mateen and Ainunnahar Siddiqa.
Law Secretary, Home Secretary, Chairman of National Human Rights Commission, Director General of Police, Chief of Army, Navy and Air Force have been made defendants in the writ petition.
It is to be noted that a violent situation was created all over the country including Dhaka around the students' movement demanding quota reform. Many students were shot dead in clashes at different places.
