2-hour Ultimatum for Chief Justice to resign
The anti-discrimination student movement has given an ultimatum for the resignation of judges of the Appellate Division including Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan.
Coordinator Hasnat Abdullah gave the ultimatum at 11 am on Saturday (August 10) at High Court premises.
He said the judges of the Appellate Division including Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan should resign by 1 pm.
Earlier, the anti-discrimination student movement asked all the judges of the Appellate Division including the Chief Justice to voluntarily resign, but as they did not do so, they asked everyone to gather at the gate of Curzon Hall to surround the High Court.
This call was made in a message from the anti-discrimination student movement platform on Saturday (August 10) morning.
Immediately after this, the 'Full Court Meeting' called by Chief Justice has been postponed.
Supreme Court Mass Communication Officer Md. Shafiqul Islam confirmed this on Saturday (August 10) at 10 am.
Asif Mahmud, the advisor in charge of the youth and sports ministry of the new interim government and one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, called for student to gather by his own Facebook status around nine in the morning on Saturday. He opined the Chief Justice's sudden call for a 'full court meeting' was a conspiracy by defeated powers.
The status given by this young advisor of the interim government is clearly highlighted. He says, 'The Supreme Court Chief Justice, who supports fascism and is involved in various misdeeds, has called a full court meeting without any discussion with the government. Any kind of conspiracy by defeated powers will not be tolerated. Lawyers have already rallied against it. We had earlier called for the resignation of the Chief Justice. If you provoke them by taking a stand against the students, they will have to suffer dire consequences.'
He called upon Justice Obaidul Hassan to resign from the post of Chief Justice immediately and unconditionally.
