A doctor at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) was allegedly assaulted yesterday after the death of a private university student Ahsanul Islam Dipto, with some of his peers accusing the physicians of neglecting their duty in his treatment.

In response, the doctors have stopped the medical services of all the departments including the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College (DMC).

Since Sunday (September 1) morning, they stopped the medical services of the emergency department due to insecurity.

On Saturday (August 31), three doctors of the neurosurgery department were assaulted. In this incident, the doctors identified the culprits after seeing the CCTV footage and gave an ultimatum to arrest them. Otherwise they announced to go on strike within 24 hours.

It is to be noted that Dipto was severely injured in a motorcycle accident on Friday night on Dhaka-Mymensingh Road in the Cantonment area. Passersby brought him to DMCH, where he succumbed to his injuries yesterday morning.
