Ex-IGPs Mamun and Shahidul Hauled into 8-Day Remand in Murder Case

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdullah Al Mamun and his predecessor, Shahidul Haque, have been placed on remand following their arrest in connection with the fatal shooting of a grocer during a student movement in Mohammadpur. The court granted an 8-day remand for Mamun and a 7-day remand for Haque on Wednesday morning.

The pair, both facing multiple charges, were apprehended late Tuesday night in Uttara. The police, seeking a 10-day remand for thorough investigation, presented them before the court at 6:45 AM, where Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aktaruzzaman ruled on the remand periods.

Mamun served as IGP from September 30, 2022, to August 6, 2024, while Haque held the position from December 31, 2014, to December 31, 2018.
