'Long March' Towards Dumboor Dam With 10 Truckloads of People
Inqilab Mancha, a cultural platform mainly based on Dhaka University (DU), comprising junior co-coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, started a long march towards Dumboor Dam in Tripura, India.
The long march started on Friday (September 6) with a large number of students and 10 trucks from capital's Shahbag area.
It is known that this program is in protest against India's construction of dams on international rivers, flood control in Bangladesh, and the reduction of navigability of waterways.
This long march will first meet at Jatrabari intersection. Later at 2 pm a road meeting will be held at Chandina, Cumilla. And at 4 pm a huge public meeting will be held at Cumilla Town Hall. From there the march will reach Bibi Bazar on foot.
Apart from numerous students, people from different classes and professions gathered at Shahbag to join the Long March from this morning. After holding a short rally, the Inqilab Mancha started a Long March with trucks.
Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, spokesperson of the organization, said, "The country has reached a new horizon today through the uprising. When the Fascist Awami League was illegally in power, the people did not dare to raise their voices against Indian aggression. We can see that India is continuously oppressing the people of Bangladesh through water terrorism."
Hadi also said the floods in Feni, Cumilla, and Lakshmipur were not natural disasters, rather it was a 'political flood'.
The Inqilab Mancha demanded immediate implementation of the Teesta Treaty, signing into the United Nations Convention on International Watercourses 1997, publication of a new list of cross-border rivers with Bangladesh, and eradication of all illegal dams constructed by India on cross-border rivers with Bangladesh.
This Long March of Inqilab Mancha towards Dumboor Dam in Tripura create a huge public opinion at home and abroad against this aggression of India.
Earlier on August 30, Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, one of the spokespersons of the platform, announced this by displaying the posters of the Long March.
