Teesta Water 33cm Above Danger Level, Low-Lying Areas Inundated
The water level of the Teesta River has increased due to torrential rains. Although there has been no rain in the last 24 hours, the water level of the river has increased.
Several low-lying areas, including Teesta's grasslands, have been flooded by rising river water at Kaunia Point. Due to the sudden increase in water, people are in fear of river erosion and crops.
On Sunday (September 29), Teesta water is flowing 33cm above the danger level at Rangpur's Kaunia Point.
It has been reported that the water level continues to rise due to rains and upstream flows in all the rivers of Rangpur, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, and Gaibandha districts. Due to this, the low-lying areas are flooded and the houses and roads are at risk of erosion. At the same time, various crops including early winter vegetables and seeds are being destroyed due to rising water in the cropland.
Bangladesh Water Development Board's Flood Forecasting and Warning Center Executive Engineer Sardar Uday Raihan confirmed the matter and told the media that the flow is now 33cm above the flood line, but it may decrease in the next 24 hours. However, although the water in Rangpur's Kaunia has increased, the water in Lalmonirhat's Teesta Barrage has not increased to that extent.
