Ex-EC Secretary Jahangir Alam Arrested in Gulshan

Police have arrested former Election Commission (EC) secretary Md Jahangir Alam from Dhaka's Gulshan area.

He was also a former Ministry of Home Affairs secretary.

Police arrested him on Tuesday (October 1) morning.

Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police media wing confirmed the information.

Jahangir Alam was the Secretary of the Election Commission during the 12th National Election.

After the election, the Awami League-led government appointed him as the home ministry's joint secretary.

He was forced to resign on 14 August following the fall of the Awami League government.

Jahangir, a BCS 13th batch administration cadre officer, started his career in Khagrachhari in 1994 as Assistant Commissioner. In 2022, he was promoted from the Additional Secretary of the Public Security Department to the Secretary of the EC Secretariat. He was later returned to the Public Security Department.

On August 14, Secretary Jahangir was sent on compulsory retirement by the government. He served as the Secretary of the Election Commission during the 12th National Assembly elections.
